Profile of a potential commissioner: Kerry Koths

With the passage of Prop. 11 in 2008, political districts will be drawn by voters, for voters starting in 2010. The applicant pool for the Citizens Redistricting Commission will be narrowed to the 60 most qualified candidates by an applicant review panel from the Bureau of State Audits. The Applicant Review Panel is currently conducting 120 semi-finalist interviews from Aug. 6 to Sept. 13, 2010.

Candidate: Kerry Koths

A transplant from Texas, Kerry Koths has lived in California for 25 years. His has worked in various sectors from the oil industry to advertising to construction. He is currently Vice-President of Operations for Connected Site Services, Inc., a telecommunications construction company that expanded Pacific Bell’s wireless network of antennas.

Koths began his career as a research and development field engineer with Schlumberger, an oilfield services company. While in the oil industry, Koths also worked in operations, marketing and sales after completing his MBA.

Koths appreciates California’s diverse geography, natural wonders, and multicultural populace. As a crew leader for the Census Bureau, he has interacted with California’s elderly, juveniles, the infirm, homeless, and unemployed, and has also worked with a diverse set of people in this capacity.

A self-described semi-professional tourist, Koths has sailed or boated in the San Francisco Bay, San Diego Bay, Shasta, Tahoe and several other rivers and bodies of water. Koths is married and also enjoys going on hikes and visiting museums.
