Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin is pleased that her home region of the Central Valley–what she calls California’s “middle ground”–is playing host to the second in a series of bipartisan conversations.
When the event convenes in Clovis on Tuesday, September 29, the topics are going to be familiar–public budgets, schools, jobs and how to engage residents on these and other important topics.
The conversations feature two Democrat and two Republican leaders in California–former San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed and educator Marshall Tuck are the Democrats who are joined on stage with Interim Dean of the Pepperdine School of Public Policy Pete Peterson and Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin, who are both Republicans.
The Central Valley region of California has not thrived economically the ways others have but is an important piece of the economy. Swearengin will talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly of California’s uneven recovery.
There will be a response panel in Clovis and three well known Fresno leaders comprise the group: California State University, Fresno President Joe Castro, Fresno Unified School District Superintendent Mike Hanson and the Fresno Bee’s Bill McEwen.
The first bipartisan conversation was held in San Jose in August. Here’s a report on it. A third may be held in Southern California early in 2016.
If you are planning to join us, the conversation will be held beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Center for Advanced Research Technology on 2555 Clovis Ave., in Clovis.
