America Gonzalez

America Gonzalez is an environmental and legal studies academic scholar committed to advancing equitable, community centered approaches to sustainability, land use, and public policy. A first-generation college student at the University of California, Santa Cruz, she is pursuing dual B.A. degrees in Environmental Studies with a concentration in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Legal Studies, where her academic work bridges data drive policy. 

Through her experience with the UCSC Sustainability Office, the Center for Economic Justice and Action, and a legislative internship through the CLYLP Comcast Fellowship, America has worked at the intersection of policy, advocacy, and spatial analysis. Her work focuses on translating complex environmental data into accessible tools that support informed decision making through policy and  community resilience, and accountable governance.

With a strong foundation in GIS, urban planning, and public policy, and a deep commitment to equity shaped by her lived experience, through guidance of justice and community. She is passionate about using law, mapping, and policy to protect communities, expand access to resources, and build more sustainable and inclusive futures.
