As the state of California has moved to create more local control for the state’s school districts, one looming question is how can districts do this the right way to ensure student success and to properly engage the local communities.
The Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) Collaborative Working Group formed by California Forward and the California School Boards Association met again in Sacramento.
The Working Group, which includes school board chairs and superintendents from 15 school districts and two county offices of education across California, was focused on grappling with the Local Control and Accountability Plans, known by the acronym LCAP. These reports explain to the state how school districts plan on improving educational outcomes.
They also heard from internationally known education and management consultant Michael Fullan of the University of Toronto, who sees California as a state where real educational change is occurring.
CA Fwd’s Angel Cardenas filed this report.
