In honor of National Siblings Day (April 10), this week’s PolicyWise Episode (17) welcomes co-host Demetria Wack’s, brother Morgan Wack. The siblings and co-host Michael Wiafe discuss the impact of misinformation in the digital age.

Morgan Wack is a doctoral student at the Department of Political Science at the University of Washington studying the proliferation of new technologies, violence and barriers to growth in developing countries.

He talks about the difference between misinformation (anything false) and disinformation (deliberate attempts to mislead) and how a piece of information can be both.

“Misinformation has become a part of democratic politics and there are a lot of very troubling trends,” said Morgan Wack. “We need to figure out what to do with it.”

They also talk about social media’s role in spreading misinformation, living in information bubbles and how to be responsible with spreading and/or believing all the information given to us.

The next episode will include a conversation with Wiafe’s sister who is a resident at the Loma Linda University Medical Center.

The PolicyWise podcast is a partnership between Youth Leadership Institute and CA FWD and can be heard on Spotify, Apple PodcastsStitcherBreaker AudioRadioPublicPocket Casts and Overcast.
