On the latest edition of the PolicyWise podcast, host Michael Wiafe introduces the Statewide Youth Panel that was part of the 30-year birthday celebration of the Youth Leadership Institute (yli) in November, which included new PolicyWise host Raymart Catacutan.
In addition to Catacutan, the yli panel included Daphne Ramirez, Michael Navarro and Alejandra Espinosa – all youth leaders who have made a difference in their community on issues from mental health to environmental justice.
Each panelist spoke about their work and talked about the challenges they face advocating for change as a young adult.
“I learned how to self-advocate and use yli as a platform to get my voice out in the community,” said Ramirez.
Catacutan agreed, saying, “I found out a lot of the work being done by young people paid off and it does pay off, whether it passes the first time or the second time, as long as you get the word out there.
