This past year has shown that access to the internet has never been more important as remote learning, working and socializing have become a way of life.

On this week’s episode of PolicyWise, Demetria Wack and Michael Wiafe welcome Sunne Wright McPeak of the California Emerging Technology Fund and Prince Ogidikpe, a member of CA FWD’s Young Leaders Advisory Council, to discuss the importance of broadband access for all Californians.

“This issue of the digital divide is affecting lives every single day,” added Ogidikpe.

According to McPeak, 22% of Californians are digitally disadvantaged: This consists of 12% who are not online at all and 10% who have access only through a smartphone. “What the digital world has brought us is a widening disparity between the haves and the have-nots.”

The PolicyWise podcast is a partnership between Youth Leadership Institute and CA FWD and can be heard on Spotify, Apple PodcastsStitcherBreaker AudioRadioPublicPocket Casts and Overcast.
