Glenda Humiston, State Director for USDA rural development in California, has some big ideas for job creation in California over the next five years.
Ms. Humiston, who is also a member of the California Economic Summit steering committee says that, in agriculture alone, around 180,000 so-called “value chain” jobs that are directly and indirectly tied to the industry could be created within five years, if we choose to focus on fostering growth in agriculture-centric rural areas. As she says in the above video, “everything between the farm and your fork” has potential for job growth.
She says that the forest industry, renewable energy and tourism are primed for growth, if we could just make those areas a priority. Listen to all that she had to say when the Summit news team caught up with her.
