Accounting Assistant (Part-time, Temporary)

The Accounting Assistant for California Forward (CA FWD) will be responsible for providing ongoing support across multiple accounting functions. This is a temporary position for ten hours per week from June 1 to August 30, 2023, with the potential for extension.

The Accounting Assistant reports directly to the Controller. The successful candidate may be based anywhere in California with the ability to work remotely.

Specifically, the Accounting Assistant will:

  • Reconcile bank, credit card and other balance sheet accounts
  • Record check deposits, wire, ACH and ETF transactions
  • Prepare and maintain sub ledgers, as required
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts for monthly close
  • Assist in the creation, tracking and maintenance of contractor agreements
  • Set up and maintain vendor accounts
  • Review accuracy of staff and vendor expense reimbursement reports and other payables documents
  • Assist in coding and documentation of payment authorizations
  • Communicate with staff and vendors as needed
  • Assist in the preparation of sponsor, program service and event attendee billing
  • Maintain ledgers and receivables report to staff
  • Create and review contracts, as needed
  • Assist staff with collections, reconciliations and travel budgets 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years of accounting work experience required
  • Bachelor of Science in Accounting or equivalent, preferred
  • Prior nonprofit experience and knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and fund accounting
  • Advanced and demonstrable skills with Excel, QuickBooks online, Expensify and cloud storage systems. Access to a remote work station with internet access to online systems
  • The ability to develop and document processes and communicate across teams while working remotely and independently is essential
