From KQED’s Governing California project, Tyche Hendricks blogs about California’s inefficient criminal justice system and previews an upcoming report from The California Report dealing with Gov. Jerry Brown’s realignment proposal and its effect on the state penal system:
“Gov. Jerry Brown has recently proposed a couple of shifts that could take pressure off the state penal system and (if he’s lucky) might even save a few bucks. One is to send tens of thousands of low-level offenders to county jails instead of state prison. Another plan — as The California Report‘s Sarah Varney will explain later this week — is to hand over the job of supervising paroled felons to county probation officers, who are currently in charge of diversion programs.”
