Caroline Vance, with California Forward, gave a remarkable presentation to members of the Ventura County Coastal Association of Realtors® on March 24. Many in attendance, until they received the notice of the meeting, had no idea that such an organization existed.
It was great to learn that there is at least one non-partisan, non-profit organization, not influenced by the media, either to the right or to the left, that is out to reform state government, move it closer to the people, and end the dysfunction in which it is currently finds itself.
We were particularly happy to hear Caroline say that reform has to start with the state budget and the two bills that are currently working their way through the State Legislature: one to stabilize the budget and the second to change the redistricting and move to an open primary.
Members attending presented some good suggestions, primarily that our State, as well as our local city and county leaders, be more transparent.
