CA FWD is thrilled to share more about some of our California Economic Summit sponsors, including the work they’re doing in California and how that aligns with our collective vision to build a resilient, sustainable, and inclusive economy. Today we feature California Resources Corporation, an independent energy and carbon management company committed to energy transition, and an Elite Sponsor of this year’s Summit.
Q1: Tell us more about your work and what you do here in California?
California Resources Corporation (CRC) is an independent energy and carbon management company operating solely in California. As the state’s largest oil and natural gas producer, we provide abundant, affordable, and sustainable energy for Californians. CRC is also leading the way in the energy transition, advancing projects such as Carbon TerraVault (CTV), our carbon capture and storage (CCS) initiative. CCS safely and permanently stores carbon dioxide, helping California meet its climate goals. We believe our state doesn’t have to choose between local energy production and bold climate action—and we’re proving both are possible by investing in innovative solutions and critical infrastructure that keep California at the forefront of global climate leadership.
Q2: Why are you excited to support the California Economic Summit this year?
CRC is proud to once again support the California Economic Summit, which is dedicated to building a stronger, more sustainable future for our state. This year, we’re celebrating milestones—the one-year anniversary of our merger with Aera Energy, our planned merger with Berry Petroleum, and major progress on CTV—as we continue balancing California’s energy needs today with the responsibility of tomorrow. These achievements reflect our alignment with California Forward’s vision for a New California Economy, and we look forward to sharing our story, collaborating with partners, and driving innovation across California.
Q3: CA FWD’s vision is to build a New California Economy that is resilient, sustainable, and inclusive so people across every region and community can prosper—what are some projects you’re working on that align with those broad goals?
CRC is committed to meeting the energy needs of over 40 million Californians, while ensuring there are good, high-paying jobs in established and emerging careers in the energy space. With energy demand continuing to rise, CRC is ready to deliver as we need all forms of energy to fuel the fourth largest economy in the world.
Our carbon management business is focused on decarbonizing sectors like data centers and cement. One of those projects is Carbon TerraVault I, the state’s first EPA Class VI Permit approved CCS project located at CRC’s Elk Hills cryogenic gas plan in Kern County.
Another project we’re excited about is the Carbon TerraVault III Project Advisory Board (PAB), located in the Sacramento basin. Initiated by a grant, this CCS project centers community leadership to drive equity, environmental resilience, and economic opportunity. The PAB exemplifies CA FWD’s regions-up vision by showing how inclusive, locally guided models can shape sustainable development and equitable growth across California.
Q4: What do you most want your fellow Summit attendees to know about your organization?
At CRC, we share your values—rooted in California, dedicated to environmental responsibility, and committed to forward-thinking solutions. We come from all paths of life: immigrants, single parents, second chancers, and first-generation college graduates. CRC provides thousands of high-quality jobs with good wages and benefits, many in regions of California that need economic opportunities most. We partner with local organizations on education from the Long Beach City College Foundation to California State University Bakersfield and Ventura College. We support workforce training such as the Kern County Hispanic Chamber Foundation—Energy Academy, while fostering community development through many Boys and Girls Clubs throughout the state. CRC emphasizes responsible operations that prioritize safety and environmental protection. As a steward of natural resources, CRC is committed to water management, habitat protection, and reducing emissions. Together, we are building a stronger California—one that protects our environment, supports our communities, and creates opportunity for generations to come.
