Campaign finance disclosure is a critical pillar in the overall discussion of transparency in government during Sunshine Week.

No issue caught the attention of Californians more than the $11 million that an Arizona-based 501c4 PAC named “Americans for Responsible Leadership” attempted to funnel into the California ballot proposition race (specifically Props 30 and 32).

California Common Cause spotted the irregularity and reported it to the FPPC, which then sued the organization for disclosure on the individuals who were behind the donation.

We bring together experts from Common Cause, the California Voter Foundation, and the Jesse M. Unruh Institute for Politics to discuss what happened and what we can do going forward to make the donation process more transparent for California voters.
