California’s infrastructure is the backbone of the state’s economy and right now it’s broken.

Why?  The state has no money to fix important things like our crumbling roads, bridges or buildings.

Finding the money to deal with our aging infrastructure means getting creative.

One region, in Southern California, has figured out how to do it.

Riverside and San Bernardino counties have several key industries, including manufacturing and logistics.

The region–known as the Inland Empire–is a major shipping hub with a network of highways and railroads that intersect. The movement of goods-known as logistics-is vital to that region’s success.

Thanks to a private-public partnership, the historic Colton Crossing got a major face-lift that relieves train bottleneck, cuts down on noise and pollution and improves efficiency.

California Forward’s Cheryl Getuiza breaks it down.
