Hundreds of Californians from across the state attended the State Board of Education meeting in Sacramento last week. The topic was the local control funding formula (LCFF), as the Board was determining permanent regulations for school funding program.
The goals of the LCFF are to gain flexibility and simplify how educational funding is distributed. The idea is to put more decision making in the hands of local officials and less in Sacramento.
But parents, students, district officials, and education activists have been pressing the need for flexibility and greater transparency in the process.
