In the past year, the Summit has made great progress but the work isn’t done yet.
The invitations have gone out and registration is open for the 2015 California Economic Summit, where attendees will continue the work that’s been going on throughout the year.
This year, Summit participants, along with presenters like California’s Treasurer John Chiang, Controller Betty Yee, Secretary of State Alex Padilla and Assemblymember Jose Medina, will gather in Ontario on November 12 and 13.
Through the collaboration California Forward, the California Stewardship Network and a network of partners across the state, the Summit will give civic, business and nonprofit leaders a chance to advance the goals laid out in the Summit’s Roadmap to Shared Prosperity, which highlights priority areas of action for advancing prosperity over the next five years.
The Roadmap is focused on three key areas—Workforce & Workplace, Infrastructure & Sustainable Communities, and Governance & Finance. Each of the Summit’s seven action teams have been working toward these shared goals.
After past annual events in Santa Clara, Los Angeles and Sacramento, the Summit will land in the Inland Empire, a place Paul Granillo of the Inland Empire Economic Partnership has said had the “best view of the Great Recession” and also reinforced the importance of the region’s role in the economy:
“We in the Inland Empire can use those two days to remind the rest of the state that we are a big part of the state’s economic backbone. We work in factories, warehouses, offices, hospitals, truck depots and hundreds of other blue- and white-collar venues. We need to make sure the rest of the state’s leaders understand that we must have an environment that allows those jobs to grow.”
The Summit attendees will be challenged to discuss major problems in interactive sessions and workgroups to come up with solutions that encourage growth of the “triple bottom line”: A prosperous economy, a sustainable environment and equity among all communities.
