In the United States, there are few things more sacred than knowing that our vote counts.
A group called Verified Voting works to make sure that not only do people have the ability to vote but that it is properly counted when they do.
In California, we have the reputation of being a state that does a good job of getting people registered to vote and educating them about the importance of casting their ballot. Even so, our state needs to improve voter participation (we currently rank 45th).
One of the areas that Verified Voting monitors is voting systems, ensuring that hey are working properly and that it is possible for counties to demonstrate to the public that votes are being captured and counted as the voter intended. In California, our voting systems are long in the tooth and in dire need of replacement.
CAFwd reports on the efforts being made in LA County to change that.
