Dave Spaur, a volunteer with Merced Ahead and a participant in our Stakeholder Roundtables, penned this column for Saturday’s edition of the Merced Sun Star:
If you’re like me — and I think most people are — you are probably wondering why our state Capitol is such a mess.
Well, mostly because we have allowed or even supported our state legislators to pass too many Assembly and Senate bills with too little oversight to determine the long-term effects on education, property values and small business over-regulation.
The result has been to chase or force a lot of large companies out of our state. … Merced Ahead, an action committee formed under Merced County United Way, will host a California Forward community meeting in Merced at City Hall in the Sam Pipes room.
We want to hear your voice on building a better California, and what you think should be changed or eliminated to reduce over-regulation, create jobs, trim the budget deficit and push government toward accountability and responsibility.
