A thoughtful, engaged crowd gathered at the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles this week to discuss California and the future of our state.
The group consisted primarily of leaders from prominent organizations in the Jewish community, including the American Jewish Committee and Progressive Jewish Alliance.
Bob Hertzberg, Co-Chair of the California Forward Leadership Council, got the dialogue going by outlining California Forward’s ideas to move the state forward.
“We have to figure out how to be creative and re-invent the future,” said Hertzberg. “California Forward is working on bringing government closer to the people by working with Californians to solve the problems at hand. We have to figure out how to create a nexus between what government does and what people think they have power over to foster further civic engagement.”
Catherine Schneider, Senior Vice President, Community Engagement of the Federation, introduced the event by touching on the importance of dialogue to government reform in the Jewish community.
Jewish Federation leader and CA Fwd Forward Thinker Ron Galperin was also on-hand to address the crowd about the importance of communication to achieving reform.
Those gathered expressed much enthusiasm over the ideas Hertzberg discussed, asking thoughtful questions about civic engagement, the initiative process, realignment and more. Many vowed to be more active and continue the discussion throughout the Jewish community and the region at large.
