Data is a powerful tool and municipalities throughout California are making sure citizens have the information they need to hold them accountable. The open data movement has grown exponentially over the years.

But putting the data out there isn’t enough. In order to engage folks, the data must be easy to digest and sort through.

For-profits and non-profits have joined the fight to help decipher all of the information with their applications and on-line tools.

California Forward attended the CITRIS Data and Democracy Initiative and UC Berkley’s Institute for Governmental Studies one day symposium where folks discussed the future of open data.
