California Forward has named Kim Walesh as a Forward Thinker for developing thriving and striving economies even during these difficult times.

Kim Walesh grew up in the Bay Area and always knew she wanted to build better communities.

“I enjoyed opportunities to take ideas and put them into action—why not do it in my own community?” says Walesh.

Right now, she says, the economy still faces some challenges – unemployment in San Jose is 10% – but she sees brighter days.

“I’m a big believer that our economic future lies in entrepreneurship and our ability to start and grow new businesses—we need to help larger companies, like Cisco and Adobe, succeed—then attract new companies to move to the area.”

Walesh believes our government still needs to recruit the best, most ambitious talent and most creative people. To make it happen, city leaders and community partners must come together, get on the same page and focus on moving in the same direction.
