CA FWD, Resilient Cities Catalyst, and the Federal Reserve Banks of New York recently hosted a Resilience Design Sprint in New York City. The Sprint brought together a group of experts across government, academia, insurance, philanthropy, and finance for two days of collaborative problem-solving aimed at addressing the growing fiscal risks that climate impacts pose to governments.

Participants dove deep into identifying current market gaps and failures in addressing climate risk, examining the high stakes of inaction, and brainstorming bold strategies that leverage the insurance sector as a financial tool—specifically focusing on reducing publicly held fiscal risks and supporting investment in long-term adaptation and mitigation efforts over time.

The Design Sprint spurred dozens of actionable ideas that enhance immediate protection for communities, reduce fiscal risks borne by the public, and stimulate long-term investments in resilience and climate adaptation.

In the coming months, CA FWD and RCC will be working to take these ideas and develop a set of actionable pilots that bring them into reality. This Sprint exemplifies CA FWD’s commitment to building innovative partnerships and developing systemic solutions that build a resilient economy—stay tuned for more to come!
