Mark Borges (he/him) joins the Young Leaders Advisory Council as a recent graduate of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly). He graduated in the spring of 2020 and received a degree in Environmental Management and Protection.
While at Cal Poly, he served a variety of roles in the university’s student government program including chairman of the organization’s Board of Directors and President. During his tenure as President, he led efforts to register more students to vote than any other public or private institution in California, chaired numerous committees in collaboration with campus administrators and community leaders, and expressed the concerns of students regarding virtual learning prompted by COVID-19.
He is currently serving as an Executive Fellow with the California Natural Resources Agency. In his free time, Borges tries to be intentional in centering wellness and mindfulness. He also enjoys visiting art museums, hiking in state and national parks, and researching vegan recipes to cook. Mark enjoys creating and participating in community-building events and groups for LGBTQ+ folks. He is excited to work with CA FWD staff as an opportunity to build strong coalitions to solve the challenges of tomorrow.
