Regional Tours
This year, we are partnering with our regional hosts to offer several exciting tours taking place Monday, November 8, from 1 to 4 p.m. with pick up at the Monterey Conference Center.
Note: There is a $30 fee for each tour which includes transportation to the heart of John Steinbeck’s downtown Salinas. There will be an optional Bounty of the County tasting reception following the tours for an added $25 (see Receptions section below).
Monterey’s Cannery Row: Learn about the history of Monterey and Cannery Row, then gain special access to the Bechtel Family Center for Ocean Education and Leadership to learn more about the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s contribution to science and STEM education, through free school, teen and teacher programs for our region, as well as expanded digital outreach for parents and educators throughout the state and nation.
The Transform and Transport Tour: Discover how government, business and technology transformed Fort Ord army base into the thriving California State University Monterey Bay, from combat boots into electric scooters, shooting ranges into biking trails, wooden barracks into LEED architecture, trained soldiers into keen scholars. Then explore the next frontier of transportation with JOBY Aviation, a company that is innovating faster, cleaner, quieter, vertical take-off electric aircraft poised to revolutionize travel. Next, learn how the Monterey Bay Drone, Automation and Robotics Technology (DART) initiative brings together industry, government, academia and practitioners into the big picture.
AgTech Innovation at Hartnell College: Learn about exciting innovations in farming and how Hartnell College is preparing students for high road jobs — all right in the heart of the Salinas Valley, the “World’s Salad Bowl.” You’ll also get to meet future computer programmers, and veterans who are getting trained in diesel mechanics thanks to a partnership with the Metallica Scholars Initiative offering hands-on training that leads to high-paying careers.
Salinas – Past & Future: Come experience the vibrancy, history and innovative community investments happening in downtown Salinas. Stops along this walking tour include the Western Growers Center for Innovation & Technology Center, Taylor Farms’ headquarters, Digital NEST, the National Steinbeck Center, and the CSU Monterey Bay Salinas City Center.
Receptions
Bounty of Monterey County Welcome Reception — November 8 from 4-6 PM
Note: There Is An Additional $25 Fee To Cover Food And Venue Costs
Sip, savor and enjoy the Bounty of Monterey County in the heart of Old Town Salinas. This one-of-a-kind, private reception will feature Taylor Farm’s freshest produce prepared by area top local chefs, paired with local wineries and breweries. Musical performances by Next Generation Jazz musicians will accompany all the great wine and food. Take a moment to learn more about Monterey County’s famous son, John Steinbeck, by browsing through the Steinbeck Museum.
Celebrating a Decade of Forward Movement Reception — Tuesday, November 9 from 6 – 7:30 PM (COMPLIMENTARY):
The Summit plenary 10th anniversary celebration reception will include refreshments, remarks and artistic performances.
