Secretary of State is a position of great influence in California, especially when it comes to all of the nuts and bolts behind the process by which we vote as citizens in California and of the United States.

Whoever occupies this position can be a powerful agent of change by pushing the technological envelope toward innovations like Online Voter Registration, which saw a resounding success in last year’s general election by getting around 800,000 new registrants in a 45 day period.

As part of our involvement with the Future of California Elections (FOCE), we attended their event in January and were able to ask State Sen. Leland Yee (D – San Francisco) about his views on some vital topics on the FOCE’s agenda.

This is the first in a series where we plan on talking to all three currently announced candidates for the position of California Secretary of State.
