In a recent interview with California Forward, new Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon talked about the state’s worsening housing issue. Creating policies that help developers meet demand, building more housing closer to where people work, and addressing the growing homelessness problem are just three elements that Rendon believes have to be considered in any comprehensive approach to solving California’s housing challenge.

When the 2015 California Economic Summit wrapped up in Ontario last November, one of its imperatives was to work with the California legislature in 2016 to promote increased production and find ways to reduce costs for both market-rate and affordable housing.

The goal is simple and memorable: build one million more homes. The Summit will lead a comprehensive effort aimed at reducing the costs and increasing the supply of housing.
