The California Fair Political Practices Commission is extending the public comment period for the first draft revision of California's venerable Political Reform Act until October 31.

Earlier this summer, the FPPC, in partnership with California Forward and the University of California, released a draft revision of the law for public comment and numerous interested parties have responded with comments and recommendations.

However, because many stakeholders find themselves very busy in the 2016 election season, the FPPC decided to extend the deadline one month, in order to make sure all Californians have an opportunity to fully review and provide comments.

The updated timeline for the project is as follows:

Comment Period #1: August 3 – October 31

Comment Period #2: December 5 – 30 (Final technical review)

To submit written comment, go to www.cafwd.org/pracomment

Or send an email to pracomment@fppc.ca.gov

The goal of the project is to revise the 42-year-old law governing political activity like campaign finance, lobbying, and governmental ethics in order to improve accessibility, compliance and enforcement of the law without make substantive policy changes.
