Participants can now register for the 2016 California Economic Summit, which will be held at the Sacramento Convention Center on December 13 and 14. The fifth annual Summit will allow public, private and civic leaders throughout the state, to advance actions that will help lift Californians out of poverty and toward upward mobility.
The Summit is the only effort linking leaders from California's regional economies to develop a shared strategy for advancing the state's triple bottom line: promoting a prosperous economy, improving environmental equality, and increasing opportunity for all. The Summit is a partnership of California Forward (CA Fwd) and the California Stewardship Network.
During the 2015 Summit in Ontario, leaders throughout the state pledged to work together on the One Million Challenges – a set of ambitious goals in three key areas that are crucial to the state's prosperity: workforce, infrastructure and housing.
"The One Million Challenges have been an effective catalyst for specific policy actions necessary for economically vulnerable Californians to become more secure and resilient," said James Mayer, president and CEO of CA Fwd. "By working to find solutions for some of the state's most pressing issues such as workforce skills gaps, housing affordability and our crumbling infrastructure – we're giving families a fighting chance at a brighter future."
According to the Supplemental Poverty Measure report from the U.S. Census, nearly one quarter of the state's residents live in poverty making California the state with the highest poverty rate in the country.
"The solution to these challenges is not one-size fits all, each economic region in California is unique with distinct strengths. It is through the Summit that leaders from across the state have an opportunity to learn from each other and develop plans that can influence statewide actions," said Bill Mueller, co-chair of the California Stewardship Network and CEO of Valley Vision.
